Opening Day: History Loves Company

Join us on Saturday, June 21, from 10 AM to 4 PM, for the opening day of Liberty Grove Historical Society’s 25th Anniversary celebration season. Each of our carefully preserved thirteen historic buildings will be open, and guides will be present at the Log House Museum to help you on your tour. In honor of this milestone year, portions of the 1873 Century Farmhouse will also be open to visitors this season. The Liberty Grove Historical Society and Museum Grounds are located on top of the hill next to the Grandview Town Park, just south of Ellison Bay.

Our neighbor, the Greater Escarpment Organization of Door County (GEO-DC), will host a presentation titled Indigenous Peoples:  A Discussion on Gifts With Larry Madden in the Barn Museum. This presentation will explore the historical significance of mahnomen (wild rice) and tobacco to the Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes Basin. *The time has yet to be determined.

The Greater Escarpment Organization of Door County (GEO-DC) is a local nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about the Niagara Escarpment. This unique geological formation stretches over 1,000 miles from New York State into Ontario, Canada, crossing the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and extending through Door County. Formed over millions of years, it consists of layers of limestone, shale, and dolomite that have eroded to create the stunning cliffs and bluffs we see today. For more information please visit the GEO-DC website at https://geo-dc.org/.

The 25th Anniversary Season features a retrospective of the Liberty Grove Historical Society, historical topics, local family history, and significant sites. A unique program will also be presented on the third Monday in June, July and August at 7 p.m. in the Museum Barn. These offerings are open to the public, and plenty of parking and seating are available. As always, the final program of the season is a site tour. Please join us in celebrating over 25 years of preserving and sharing the special history of the Liberty Grove community.

All LGHS programs follow a short membership meeting. Merchandise benefiting LGHS will be available. All programs are free and open to the public with plenty of on-site parking and seating.
