SUMMARY:Savory Spoon Cooking School Site Tour
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, September 15\, 4 PM: Site Tour of Savory Spoon Cooking School \nThis year’s planned site tour includes the original Ellison Bay schoolhouse\, built in 1879 on land originally owned by Johan Eliason (John Ellison). The building is made of native old-growth cedar\, which was abundant in the area then. The school operated for nearly 50 years until the new school was built on Garrett Bay Road\, now Fitzgerald Park. Michael and Janice Thomas purchased the building in 2004 and spent two years restoring it to its original look. There is much to learn about this iconic landmark in “downtown” Ellison Bay. Please arrive 15 minutes early and use the parking lot by Door County North’s Visitor Kiosk located on the same side of the road\, just south of the Savory Spoon Cooking School. \n The 25th Anniversary Season features a retrospective of the Liberty Grove Historical Society\, historical topics\, local family history\, and this significant site. A unique program will also be presented on the third Monday in June\, July and August at 7 p.m. in the Museum Barn. These offerings are open to the public\, and plenty of parking and seating are available. Please join us in celebrating over 25 years of preserving and sharing the special history of the Liberty Grove community.  \nAll programs are free and open to the public with plenty of on-site parking and seating. \nAll events are subject to change. For the most current event information find us on Facebook.com/libertygrovehistory. \n
