SUMMARY:2024 Season Museum Opening Day
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 22\, 10 – 4 pm: LGHS Opening Day: Celebration of the Potawatomi of Northern Door Peninsula. Since time immemorial people have lived on the Door Peninsula. The last documented Potawatomi village in Liberty Grove migrated west from Rowleys Bay across the Waters of the Green Bay to Cedar River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan about 1878. What was the essence of their language\, culture and spirituality? What lessons should we learn from this era? \nSpecial Presentation: 1 PM Forest County Potawatomi Nation Historical & Cultural  Preservation Officer Sam Alloway will help us learn about the Traditions and Cultures that helped these first people survive for hundreds of generations\, endure forced migration from their homes in the 1830s and renew their communities. \nNew Fishing Net Drying Rack Exhibit in the white barn. The European immigrants and migrants from the East followed a different path. \nTwelve historic Liberty Grove buildings\, since 1873 will be open from 10 am – 4 pm. For the most current event information find us on Facebook.com/libertygrovehistory. \n  \nAdditional 2024 Programming and Events \nSpring Potluck Meeting is Monday\, May 20\, 6 pm located at the Town of Liberty Grove Hall. All LGHS members and anyone considering joining are invited to attend. \nA unique June\, July and August monthly evening program capturing local history will be presented every 3rd Monday at 7 pm following a general membership meeting in the white museum barn.  Charlie Henriksen– Henriksen Family Continues Liberty Grove Commercial Fishing Traditions will be presented on June 17; Wills Store- It’s a Small Town! True Romances & Adventures will be presented on July 15 and  Mertha Fulkerson: The Arc and Legacy of an Exemplary Life will be presented on August 19. \nThe 23th Annual “Lake to Table” Fish Boil Fundraiser is on-site in the barn on Thursday\, June 20\, from 4 – 8 pm. \nAntique Tractor & Arts Festival is a 2-day weekend event\, July 27 – 28\, 10 – 4 pm. \nVolunteer Picnic is Monday\, August 5\, 6-8 pm. \nVintage Market Days are Saturday\, August 10 and September 14\, 10 – 3 pm. \nGustave’s 1887 Lodge on-site tour is presented by Annie Miller\, on September 16\, 4 pm. \nFall Color “Photo Op” Day is Saturday\, October 12\, from 10-3 pm and the last day the museum buildings will be open for the 2024 season. \nFall Potluck Meeting is Monday\, Oct. 21\, 6 pm located at the Town of Liberty Grove Hall.
